How to improve the reliability of the engine main bearing?

Many engines have bearings. As long as the bearing has a common fault, it will stop running, and it cannot be carried out during work. To improve the reliability of the engine, it is necessary to start with the bearing. Let's explain in detail the five countermeasures for improving the reliability of engine bearings.

1. Improve machining accuracy. To improve the machining accuracy of each component of the bearing, it should not be less than the 4-level precision, and the effective backlash and the mutual cooperation value during installation should be properly used. During installation, the bearings should be inspected according to the content required by the unique technical standards, such as appearance inspection, inspection for surface defects and rust exceeding the requirements, and the specifications and initial backlash of the re-examination and mutual cooperation.

2. The inclination between the bearing ring and the center line should not be too large. For bearings with a long service life, when high reliability is required, the inclination of the bearing ring and the centerline should not exceed the allowable specification (for bearings with a service life of more than 1000h, the inclination should not exceed 0.5′).

3. Use 3-point contact ball bearings. Replacing 4-point contact ball bearings with 3-point contact axial thrust ball bearings increases bearing reliability.

4. Steel cage. Replace the brass cage with a steel cage, the surface of the cage should be gold-plated.

5. The temperature difference between the inner and outer rings is lower than 5 °C. The reliability of the bearing can be improved if the heat generated by the bearing can be reasonably taken away and maintained on the overall width of the bearing and its outer ring has a relatively uniform temperature gradient, and the temperature difference between the inner and outer rings does not exceed 5°C.
